Tierra del Fuego is an excellent place for those who love cycling, and MTB. The geography of the island, with its coasts, deep valleys and wide mountain range, offers many trails with different levels of difficulty, that can be explore all year round if the weather permits.
Near Ushuaia you can do a Mountain Bike tour that goes through the forest of the Martial Glacier Natural Reserve, and ends up at a viewpoint called Mirador del Martial. This tour has a duration of 3 hours and a medium/high level of difficulty.
Another interesting circuit is the trail that leads to Estancia Túnel. It starts at Baliza Escarpados, in Playa Larga, goes through the forest and then borders the coastline of the Beagle Channel until you reach the old ranch. You ride on e-bikes and the whole trail will take aproximately 5 hours.
Both Martial and Estancia Túnel trails can be done in winter hiring MTB guides.
Another itinerary is located in the area of the Carbajal Valley viewpoint. Here you can cycle on the trail that leads to the Beban Waterfalls. The ride has a duration of 4 hours and a medium/high level of difficulty. Due to the harsh terrain this MTB tour is only available during spring and summer.
The last circuit is on the area around the Garibaldi Pass, where you can make a round trip on e-fat-bikes through an old gravel road that leads to the head of the Escondido Lake. This place has a great natural beauty, with steep slopes, cascades and the Andes mountains surrounding the National Route 3 on both sides. To do this kind of activity it's important that you are fit and in good health, since the mountain terrain is very demanding. These bike tours are available between September and April, and are subject to weather conditions.
