Alpine skiing has a long tradition in Tierra del Fuego, which began with the foundation of the first mountain shelter in 1956.
Nowadays, this sport attracts professionals and amateurs from all over the world to the island, since Tierra del Fuego has the longest winter season in South America.  With an ideal snow quality for fast descents down the mountain slopes, skiing at the end of the world is an exciting experience.
The Cerro Castor winter resort, located 26 kilometers from the city, has 34 slopes ranging from beginner to advanced level, all of them approved by the International Ski Federation (FIS).
The most challenging slope is the one called "Condor", located at the top of Cerro Krund, at 2,500 meters above sea level. From there the descents are pure adrenaline, surrounded by a beautiful scenery.
Given the popularity of this sport and the quality of the winter resorts, competitions, trainings and events are held annually in Tierra del Fuego, such as the opening of the winter season, which gathers snow lovers at Cerro Castor.
