Both for amateurs and experts, the experience of navigating the Beagle Channel and the lakes of Tierra del Fuego by canoe or kayak is truly unforgettable.

Canoeing

One of the most popular options is a combined trekking and canoeing tour in Tierra del Fuego National Park.  After a 3-hour walk along a coastal path, you arrive at Lake Roca, from where you start navigating in inflatable canoes on the Lapataia and Ovando Rivers. The trip lasts approximately 1 hour and a half, and ends at Lapataia Bay.  During the trip you can observe the magnificent natural environment of the park and its fauna.

Another circuit to do in canoes, which takes a whole day, starts in the area of Estancia Harberton, on the east coast of the Beagle Channel.  From there, you navigate through the Guaraní Passage until you reach Gable Island, where you can descend and explore the place.  Gable Island has an area of 22 km2 and a trail that leads to a breathtaking view of the Beagle Channel.  During this trip, passengers can also visit nearby Martillo Island to observe a colony of Magellanic penguins.
Finally, canoeing can be done on Lago Escondido, as part of a combined Off-Road tour, which crosses old lumberjack trails near the shores of Lake Fagnano.

Kayaking

Those who wish to kayak can go on group excursions or hire a personalized tour with a guide. One of the itineraries starts at Golondrina Bay, bordering the western coast of the Beagle Channel, passing by Cucharita Bay and ending at Cauquenes Bay.  It is important to remember that this activity is subject to weather conditions, so it is always advisable to check with the tour operator in advance.

Another tour takes place in Ushuaia's bay, in the area known as Caleta Aspirante. It starts at the AFASyN Club, bordering the coastline until you get near Isla Casco, from where you return by the same route. Depending on the type of tour, you can see Isla de los Pájaros or sail near the Saint Christopher.

Other circuits that can be explored by kayak are Gable Island and Escondido Lake, as part of combined tours, and the Khami Lagoon, near the town of Tolhuin.
