Snowshoeing is a great way to explore the icy landscapes of the island.  Walking among tall lenga trees, feeling the snowflakes on your face, and listening to the wind through the bare branches as you move smoothly through the forest, is an unforgettable experience.

Designed to avoid sinking into the snow, snowshoes are attached to boots with bindings that generally consist of a platform and nylon straps that cover the foot over the instep and around the heel. For traction on snowy terrain, snowshoes have crampons.

These hikes can be enjoyed along the Tierra Mayor Valley, which concentrates most of the winter resorts, or as a combined activity in other types of excursions.  The circuits go through forests, old paths and peat bogs.

An interesting option, which allows to enjoy the winter magic in a different way, consists of a night walk.  By the light of lanterns or torches, these excursions take you on a fascinating journey through the stillness of the night.  The hike ends with an exquisite dinner by the fire, in a cozy cabin.
