When temperatures drop, ice becomes one of the most beautiful features of winter landscapes. Long stalactites hanging from the roofs capture the light reflex and the frozen ground sparkles early in the morning. Is the ideal moment to make a pause, have a hot drink or take a photograph.

For those who love sports , there are two places to practice ice skating. One is located in Ushuaia, in front of the bay, and the other at the Cerro Castor ski resort, 26 kilometers from the city.

Besides skating, ice hockey is another popular activity during the season. Ushuaia hosts the End of the World Cup, a national tournament sponsored by the Argentine Ice Hockey Federation and the Club Andino Ushuaia. This year the event will take place on the 1st of August.

In the town of Tolhuin, in the central area of the island, art is celebrated with a Festival of Ice Sculptures. Local and guest artists work on ice blocks extracted from a lagoon called Aguas Blancas, turning them into fantastic sculpted figures.
