Within the Provincial Reserve "Corazon de la Isla", located a few kilometers from the town of Tolhuin, there are numerous water mirrors of great scenic beauty. One of them is the Sofia Lagoon. To get to this place, you must follow a three-kilometer marked trail that crosses the characteristic forest of the ecotone, made up of lengas and ñires, and low bushes. In some areas you can observe the impact of beavers on the land, as these animals create artificial dams where parts of the native forest are flooded and die underwater. The difficulty of this hike is low, since it goes through mostly flat terrain, with some gentle slopes. It is ideal to do it with the family and enjoy the scenery. In the surroundings of the lagoon it is possible to see several species of birds that live in the reserve, such as the black-chested eagle, the cauquén and the giant woodpecker. Continuing along the same signposted path, after another hour's walk, you can reach the shores of Lake Fagnano. Recommendations for visitors Remember that you are entering a protected area, and natural habitat of numerous species. Do not pollute or damage the forest or waterways with garbage. Be sure to take any waste you generate during your hike with you. Do not damage or remove the information signs posted on the trails. The purpose of these signs is to mark the circuits and guide the hiker. Respect the indications of the park rangers for your safety and that of other visitors. Do not disturb the fauna of the reserve. Whenever you set out on a hike, be sure to wear appropriate clothing, footwear, and equipment. Avoid staying out too late and only take routes that are appropriate for your fitness level.
