National Park and End of the World Train

Explore the National Park on your own or take a ride on a train that will take you on a journey through nature and local history.

The Tierra del Fuego National Park is the southermost natural reserve in Argentina and also the only one with a coastline.  During spring and summer this park attracts many visitors who seek to admire its nature and fauna and explore the trails.

Lake Acigami/Roca is one of the most popular spots in the reserve, due to its beauty and serenity. Here you can enjoy a quick stroll or just sit and watch the sunset over the waters. The trail Hito XXIV borders the lake shore and it's a very picturesque and easy trek to do. Another popular hike leads to the shores of Beagle Channel.

Whenever you need to take a rest and warm up, the Alakush Visitor Center has a restaurant and a cafe, and a viewpoint on its first floor where you can take the best selfies.

A visit to the National Park can be combined with a ride on the End of the World Train. A vintage steam locomotive will take you through the Río Pipo Valley on a 7 kilometers ride that follows the same route that the inmates of Ushuaia's old prison used to do 100 years ago, to supply firewood to the town.

The tour starts at the Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino Station, located 8 kilometers west of Ushuaia, and ends at the borders of the Tierra del Fuego National Park. From the wagon's window you will see the landscape passing by : lenga trees, the remains of an old bridge, a winding river and the Station "La Macarena".

At this stop  you can get off the train and take a quick stroll or you can climb a stair that leads to a beautiful waterfall called La Macarena. Back in the wagon, there is nothing better than enjoying a hot chocolate or a coffee, while listening to the history of the old prisoners' train on an audio guide.

The ride ends at the border of the National Park and then you can choose between going back to the main station on the train or hike to the entrance of the reserve.
