The Cerro Martial centre is located at only 7 kilometers northwest of the city and it is possible to get there by public transportation (taxis or remises). The trails in this area are open to the public. Once you reach the base of the resort, at elevation 315, you must start the ascent along the main ski run or take the variant that crosses the forest, following the course of the Buena Esperanza Stream. Both trails end at the panoramic point located on the upper platform, at 515 meters above sea level. The distance from the base of the ski run to the platform is approximately 1,300 meters, so the ascent on foot may take about 40 minutes, depending on the physical condition of each person. The distance to be covered by the variant is longer (about 1,500 meters). When you get to the viewpoint, the information signs indicate the direction of the trails available for walking. The Filo trail is in an easterly direction, and crosses a stony terrain with almost no slopes, until it reaches 610 meters above sea level, where there is a very wide view of the city and the Beagle Channel. Main attractions: Lenga forest, transition forest, high altitude grassland, Andean desert, panoramic view of the Martial Glacier, the city, the Beagle Channel, the Hoste and Navarino Islands.
Just 5 minutes from the city, the surroundings of the Louis Martial Protected Natural Area, works in winter as a ski slope and learning winter sports, including not only snowboarding and alpine skiing, but also cross-country skiing - also known as cross country or Nordic Ski. In summer it is an active center for trekking and hiking.
